COUPLES Therapy

For couples caught in the same patterns, even when they both want things to be different.

Sarah Stewart Therapy Brand Mark

Therapy for couples navigating conflict, disconnection, communication difficulties, loss of trust, or a relationship that no longer feels the way it once did.

You may be caught in a cycle that feels hard to break

This could look like…

In your conflict

• Approaching conflict like a problem to solve, only to find that more explaining leaves you further apart.

• Rushing to fix things while your partner needs to feel heard first, or the reverse.

• Trying to prove your point or get your partner to see your side.

In your connection

• Understanding each other intellectually but struggling to feel emotionally connected in the moment.

• Wanting closeness, but being vulnerable with each other feels uncomfortable or unfamiliar.

• Living like co-managers or roommates of a household instead of partners.

In your patterns

• Feeling capable in every other area of life, yet struggling to get unstuck as a couple.

• Noticing that communication strategies that work well elsewhere fall flat in your relationship.

• Having the same conversations again and again without creating the change you both want.

What Can Change: From repeating the cycle to changing it together
What can change

From repeating the cycle to changing it together

Couples therapy allows you to understand the cycle you get caught in and practice responding differently when it happens. You can learn to intervene before a conversation turns into the same argument, stay connected when things feel difficult, and communicate what is underneath criticism, defensiveness, or withdrawal.

I may pause a conversation when I notice a familiar habit, help you put words to what is underneath a reaction, or prompt a different way of responding to your partner. We will notice what happens, talk about what you experienced, and try again.

The goal is not to agree on everything. It is to feel more understood, more emotionally connected, and more able to move through difficult moments together. The work is about experiencing a different way of relating, not just understanding it intellectually.

I practice Gottman Method Couples Therapy (trained in Levels 1 and 2) and Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples
